Take my advice: You really don't want to drive around Edinburgh.

Why not?  I can sum it up in one word.

Parking.

Parking in Edinburgh is a nightmare.  It’s competitive, it’s expensive, and it's ruthlessly enforced by the parking “meanies”, Edinburgh's very own 24-hour parking "attendants".

On the other hand, if you intend hiring a car to see the rest of Scotland, then driving around is the way to gso.  Car is the best to travel around the country, especially in the remote areas.

Expedia offers reasonable rates on UK car hire, with the added convenience of online booking.  Car rental ,UK car hire,
